The seventh lecture in the Seamus Heaney Lecture Series will centre on education and ethos. Dr Jones Irwin, Lecturer in Philosophy, St Patrick’s College, will look at obstacles to pluralism in Irish schools, focusing on the report arising from the Forum on Patronage and Pluralism in the Primary Sector. Other speakers will include Senator Ivana Bacik, Lecturer in Law, Trinity College, Dublin, and Breda O’Brien, Irish Times Columnist and Patron, Iona Institute.
The evening will be chaired by Justine McCarthy, The Sunday Times and Adjunct Professor of Journalism, University of Limerick.
The lecture will be followed by a reception for the launch of Dr Irwin’s book ‘Paulo Freire’s Philosophy of Education.’ The book will be launched by John Coolahan.
The lecture commences at 7pm, Monday, 13th May, in the Auditorium, St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra. It is open to the public.
