The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr James Reilly TD, will present certificates to students in recognition of work undertaken in the community on behalf of Localise, at Larkin Community College, Champions Avenue (off Cathal Brugha Street) Dublin 1, on Monday, 22nd September, 2014, at 12 noon.
Present also will be Mr. Stuart Dwyer, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Dublin, Ms. Jacinta Stewart, Chief Executive Officer of City of Dublin Education and Training Board, teachers and parents.
Over 100 students have worked on community projects through Localise, which fosters youth and community development work. The awards ceremony highlights the positive impact that community service learning has on students and the impact on the wider population. The young people worked with homeless, the elderly and Special Olympics Ireland.
Last year, Localise engaged over 1,070 youth volunteers in 80,000 volunteering hours for 240 community service projects resulting in delivery of almost €1.76m worth of community service work.
