Dublin Lord Mayor Naoise O Muiri unveiled the plaque to mark the formal opening of the Garden of Hope project at the Simon Housing facility at Sean MacDermott Street, Dublin, today.
A labour of love undertaken over a 10 day period in Dublin’s North inner city was unveiled two weeks ago. But at a simple ceremony today at the garden, those who gave of their free time to the project were welcomed by Dublin Simon and Localise, the NGO involved in co-ordinating the project.
A team of volunteers had been working on the project in transforming waste ground at the facility at Sean MacDermott Street, investing thousands of hours of free labour and utilising plants, paving and other materials donated to the project.
Schoolchildren from the nearby Larkin Community College were present.
Localise director, Derek Cleary, said he was thrilled by the success of the project. “This has been a great project to be involved in. To see all the happy faces of the residents and all involved has been so worthwhile.”
