CityJet, the Irish European regional airline, has been named Business Airline of the Year 2015 by Chambers Ireland, the largest business organisation in the country.
The airline received the award today at a reception in Dublin which marks a year of significant achievement by the carrier which has announced the acquisition of new aircraft and commenced flying direct in October from Cork to London City Airport.
Pat Byrne, Executive Chairman of CityJet, said the airline was honoured to be named by the Chambers’ magazine, inBusiness, as the top airline. The magazine is the inhouse publication for the membership of the Chamber which has a network of local business organisations across the country.
Mr Byrne said: “It is a wonderful honour to be named Business Airline of the Year by such a prestigious body as Chambers Ireland. It is always great to receive recognition but when it comes from those working at the heart of business and enterprise throughout Ireland, it is doubly rewarding.”
He said: “We are proud of our achievements this year in establishing ourselves as a leading independent regional carrier in Europe. We have enjoyed significant growth in traffic volumes, whilst on our non-scheduled business we secured a major new wet lease with SAS who have contracted for eight new Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft, commencing in March 2016. In addition, we have also placed an order for 15 new Superjet 100 regional jets to replace our existing fleet and support network growth.”
He added: “Ireland’s business people and entrepreneurs know the value and ease of access from flying direct to London City Airport from either Dublin or Cork, the hub that serves the beating financial and commercial heart of the UK capital
